I have acted in a play with my local community theatre group which wrapped last month. I continue a great relationship with the group, and hope to be in there next show.
However I have been working on a script of my own. Is it inappropriate to approach them about doing my show someday? Would it be awkward and unethical, or am I being paranoid?
Is it wrong to ask about my script?
It would be absolutely fine to ask them to look at it. Maybe you could have a staged reading or a night of original works.

no dumbo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they might think the same as you
Reply:I think it%26#039;s great that you%26#039;re writing a play of your own! Of course it is acceptable to ask them to look at it, but be prepared for their probable answer of %26quot;No, we%26#039;re not going to do it.%26quot; Not in those exact words of course. But don%26#039;t let that discourage you at all. There are many factors that go into deciding what production to put on. One of those factors is whether or not the play will sell. They may be nervous about putting your play on because it has never been done before. So, go ahead and ask! If the community theatre says no, you could take it somewhere else! Keep up the great writing!
Reply:Look at Sylvester Stallone, he was auditioning for a part and they said you%26#039;re not going to get it, sorry. But he said i also write, and within 1 week he came back with the Rocky script that shot him to stardom. If you dont ask you%26#039;ll never get anywhere, just let them know that you do write and that you do have a script, sort of hint to them, spark up a conversation and then start talking about it.
